Jodi Sta. Maria gets nostalgic after watching 'Tabing Ilog' musical with son: 'Lakas maka-flashback'

Jodi Sta. Maria found herself transported back to her Tabing Ilog days after watching the musical adaptation of the beloved series with her son, Thirdy.

Taking to Instagram, she shared glimpses of the special moment she enjoyed with Thirdy, who she shares with ex-husband Panfilo "Pampi" Lacson Jr. She expressed the joy of experiencing Tabing Ilog The Musical with her son nearly two decades after the original series captured hearts on national television.

"It’s been more than 20 years since Tabing Ilog first aired on national television and now I finally got to see Tabing Ilog The Musical," Jodi started. "What made it even more special was I got to share this experience with my son. Hindi na nya kasi inabot ang Tabing Ilog..laging sa kwento ko nalang sa kanya na ito ang first regular show ko sa ABSCBN..ngayon napanuod na nya."

"Sobrang nostalgic and lakas maka-flashback nung mga panahon na nag-taping kami sa Pagsanjan," she added.

Jodi congratulated the cast and the musical's story and then invited others to watch the show.

"Kudos sa cast! Ang galing nilang lahat. Maganda ang storya. Nakakaindak at nakakaiyak ang musika. Sobrang makakarelate ka talaga. Last 3 shows nalang. Nakapanuod ka na ba? Kita-kits sa San Juan E kasama ang barkada," she ended her caption.

Tabing Ilog The Musical is an adaptation of ABS-CBN’s teen drama that follows the friendships and romances within a group of friends. It originally ran on ABS-CBN from 1999 to 2003. 

The musical was directed by Phil Noble and written by Eljay Deldoc.

The cast consists of first-time thespians including Vivoree, BINI’s Jhoanna Robles, and Sheena Belarmino who will share the role of Eds, originally played by Kaye Abad in the series. 

Also making their theater debut are Akira Morishita and JL from P-pop boy group BGYO, who will alternate as Rovic, originally played by John Lloyd Cruz. 

The musical stars Kiara Takahashi, who previously played Eds in the 2020 run. She will alternate the role of George—originally played by Jodi Sta. Maria—with Chaye Mogg and Andi Abaya. While Desiree del Valle’s role as Corinne will be shared by Miah Canton and Anji Salvacion,

Additionally, Patrick Garcia’s character James will be played by Jordan Andrews and Kobie Brown. Meanwhile, Baron Geisler’s role of Fonzy will be alternated by Vino Mabalot and Drei Sugay; Paolo Contis’ Badong will be shared by Earvin Estioco and Jude Matthew Servilla.  

Apart from a fresh storyline, the restaging will also introduce new characters: Omar Uddin as Andoy, Teetin Villanueva as Anchang, Red Nuestro as Panyong, Lance Reblando as Meow, Vyen Villanueva as Toots, Neomi Gonzales as Azon, and Joann Co as Lola Juling.  

The musical ran at the PETA Theater from Nov. 10 to Dec. 17.
