Pampanga’s Joanne Thornley has withdrawn from the Miss Universe Philippines pageant.

In a statement shared by Miss Universe Philippines Angeles City, the organization said that the beauty queen is bowing out due to "health challenges."

“With a heavy heart, The Miss Universe Philippines Angeles City announces the decision of Joanne Thornley to withdraw from the Miss Universe Philippines pageant. Joanne has faced health challenges which prevented her from attending several activities,” it wrote.

It added that “her health concerns required her to prioritize her well-being above all else.”

Angeles City also expressed its gratitude towards the MUPH organization, its sponsors, and the creatives behind it.

“Your dedication to empowering women is truly commendable. Please continue to extend your support and encouragement to the remaining contestants as they embark on this remarkable journey,” it said.

“As for our Angeleños and supporters, we are incredibly grateful for all the love and encouragement we have received while Joanne represented our beloved Angeles City in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant. We will forever cherish this unwavering support in our hearts.”

Joanne, a 22-year-old fashion design student from De La Salle - College of St. Benilde, is the second candidate from this year's roster to have left the pageant. Last month, Natasha Jung of Kananga also announced her withdrawal. She was replaced by Phoebe Arrianna Veloso Torita.

54 contestants will participate at the 5th MUPH pageant. The winner will be crowned by Miss Universe 2023 semi-finalist Michelle Dee.
