Carla Abellana opens up about 'transformative' egg freezing journey
Carla Abellana opened up about a life decision she recently made: freezing her eggs.
On Instagram, the local star uploaded a video revealing her egg freezing journey that started in 2024.
"My journey towards egg freezing has been a transformative experience—one that required a lot of research, emotional preparation, and support," she captioned her post.
"From the moment I decided to take this step, I knew it was important to surround myself with the right team," she added, thanking fertility clinic Conceive IVF Manila Inc. under Kato Repro Biotech Center.
The 38-year-old actress briefly talked about the steps she underwent for the procedure as she mentioned how the team at the reproductive center made the experience "smooth and reassuring."
"The consultation was the first step, where Medical Director Dr. Ednalyn Ong-Jao explained the process and answered all my questions with much care and expertise."
"As I prepared, I was amazed by the professionalism and compassion of the entire team. The nurses made every step easy and reassuring, while Doc Eds ensured that every detail was carefully handled," she continued.
"I'm incredibly grateful to everyone involved—their kindness, support, and expertise made all the difference," Abellana added.
Abellana is set to undergo another round of injections and medications and will return to the clinic after a few days.
According to KATO Medical Group Philippines, egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, is a procedure where a woman's eggs (oocytes) are retrieved, frozen, and stored for later use. This allows them to preserve their fertility by potentially using the frozen eggs for "family building in the future, especially if they wish to delay childbearing due to personal, medical, or professional reasons."
Other local celebrities who have shared their decision to freeze their eggs are Iza Calzado, Ice Seguerra, Vina Morales, Divine Lee, Sam Oh, Aiai delas Alas, Gretchen Fullido, and Alice Dixson.
