YG Entertainment responds to rumors about BLACKPINK's Jennie joining Marvel
Sorry everyone, BLACKPINK's Jennie won't be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe anytime soon, her management said.
It was reported on June 12 that Jennie will be seen making her MCU debut for an Asian superhero group, 'Team Agents of Atlas.' According to the report, she is set to play the character of Seol Hee (Luna Snow) in the film, which first appeared in the video game “Marvel: Future Fight” in 2015 and was voiced by f(x)’s Luna.
But hours later, YG Entertainment addressed the rumors saying the rumors are false.
“It is not true that Jennie received an offer to star in a Marvel project,” they told OSEN in a statement.
Jennie made her Hollywood debut through the HBO drama The Idol, where she plays the role of a backup dancer named Dyanne.
Netizens came to Jennie's defense after some found her scenes in the said series very "provocative."
"[K]orean movies/dramas got actual sex scenes while [J]ennie did a sexy dance...so what's the issue," wrote one Twitter user.
"[I] love and admire [J]ennie so much. it’s so nice to see a K-pop idol that does not care to break these strict, weird standards that the industry be putting on idols. It’s great to see an idol being themselves, using their opportunities and she doesn’t care which is what K-pop needs," said another.
New episodes of The Idol premiere every Monday on HBO Go.
