Matet de Leon admits ‘misunderstanding’ with brother Ian de Leon over inheritance issue

Matet de Leon admitted that there has been a misunderstanding among the five siblings, including her brother Ian de Leon, over the inheritance from their late mother, Nora Aunor.

In her recent interview with Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Matet said she and her siblings are not in a feud with Ian, but admitted that there was a “misunderstanding.”

"Actually hindi ko po masabing away but misunderstanding," said Matet. The actress also reacted to Ian's statement regarding him being the sole and legal heir of Aunor.

"Totoo naman po. Wala namang pagdududa doon. Kumbaga, kahit na hindi niya po sabihin, eh understandable; alam naman po ng lahat 'yan," she said.

Ian earlier shared in an ANC interview that he has established two one-person corporations for their mother's legacy and estate, the Nora Aunor Enterprise and Nora Aunor Foundation, though he noted that being the sole heir does not mean excluding his siblings.

However, Matet went on to say that the move conflicted with the foundation that Lotlot had earlier established shortly after their mother’s death.

“Shortly after mom passed away, nagmadali po kami na magtayo ng foundation because ang dami po ang gustong mag-ano kay mommy. Capitalize po ba tawag doon? Parang gusto nilang gumawa agad ng mga foundation and everything. So nagmadali kami. Kasi kailangan kaming lima ‘yun,” she explained, adding that they only learned about Ian's corporations on social media.

"Hindi po kami kasama. Nalaman na lang po namin about 'yung dalawa sa social media," Matet said. “Baka po ‘yung dalawang boys, baka po alam nila. But kami ni ate, definitely wala po. Hindi po kami kasama, hindi po kami nasabihan,” she added.

The actress also said that although their mother left several properties behind, she is unaware if there is a last will and testament.

After Ian’s interview, Matet shared a cryptic post featuring a photo of herself and her three other siblings with the caption, “Post ko lang uli. Eto nga pala ang ngiti ng mga ampon na walang mana. Mukha ba kaming may pake?” seemingly alluding to her brother’s statement.

Lotlot, in a statement through her legal counsel, disputed Ian's claim that she is included in the plans as she was "not consulted and simply informed at the very least of any participation or plans for the administration of their mother's estate."

"To our client's knowledge, there is no last will and testament executed assigning sole administration and authority to the estate of their mother," the statement read.

It further asserted that Lotlot is "not after any inheritance nor seeking for any gain attached to the estate and legacy of her mother."

Aunor passed away in April last year at the age of 71 due to acute respiratory failure. Ian is her biological child with her ex-husband, Christopher De Leon, while Lotlot De Leon, Matet De Leon, Kiko, and Kenneth were her adopted children.
