Liza Soberano explains why she left Careless, reveals new management
Liza Soberano explained that she left Careless, the talent agency and music label founded by James Reid, to pursue international projects.
In an interview with Preview, the actress shared why she left the agency after joining them over two years ago in June 2022.
"Careless’ focus has always been on music. The goal was always to build my own team and gradually shift to more international opportunities," Liza said.
Despite her decision, she expressed gratitude to the agency for allowing her to gain more experience in her career.
"Through James (Reid) and Jeff (Oh), I was able to find my voice as a woman in entertainment and grow as an artist and entrepreneur in ways I could’ve never imagined," she highlighted.
Liza is now being managed by American record label and entertainment agency Transparent Arts, founded by hip hop group Far East Movement. The company aims to create a global platform for American and Asian artists. Other celebrities under their management include James, The Rose, B.I. Dumbfoundead, and Yultron.
The agency was also the same one that helped her land her role in her first Hollywood movie Lisa Frankenstein, where she starred with Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse.
Aside from this, Liza has also signed up with artist agency Verve as well as WILD, a global entertainment company managed by CEO Leonard Lim.
According to the actress, the market in Los Angeles is "so much bigger, so everyone has to fend for themselves."
"It can be a lot of work managing all of that, but it’s honestly very liberating knowing that I’m capable of all of it," she assured.
Nevertheless, she still feels pressure to strive to represent the Philippines and make her fans proud of her roles.
"After doing my press runs where I talked about being a Filipina actress, I constantly got offers for Filipino characters with very stereotypical arcs. But my U.S. representatives remind me to be patient and wait for the right project," Liza said.
"I don’t want to be limited or categorized based on my race. I want to one day be in the same conversations as other well-known actresses who star in projects that are up for Emmy and Oscar nominations," she continued.
Rumors about Liza leaving Careless began in early September when eagle-eyed social media users noticed she was no longer following the agency on Instagram. The label eventually confirmed that the local star had not been with them since July 29.
Before Careless, Liza was under the care of talent manager Ogie Diaz for 11 years.
