Mandy Moore opens up about dealing with pregnancy melasma

Mandy Moore revealed she’s struggling with melasma during her third pregnancy.

The singer and actress opened up about her skin condition in a now-expired Instagram story, where she can be seen using a red light therapy device that’s known to repair the skin “without inducing any heat or pain.”

“Pregnancy melasma is the pits,” she wrote on her post.

The National Institutes of Health refers to melasma as a “skin problem caused by brown to gray-brown patches on the face.” Individuals usually get it on the cheeks, chin, nose bridge, forehead, and above the upper lip. The NIH added that pregnancy is among its most common causes.

The NIH said melasma can be treated with a topical combination of hydroquinone cream as well as avoidance of sun or estrogen exposure. If they don’t work, lasers and skin peels can also help. They are “usually safe and may produce results faster than topical medications,” it continued.

Moore announced that she’s expecting baby no. 3 with her husband Taylor Goldsmith in late May. The little one would be their first daughter after welcoming two boys: Augustus in 2021 and Oscar in 2022.
