BLACKPINK's Lisa to star in action-thriller film with Don Lee, Lee Jin Uk
BLACKPINK's Lisa is teaming up with Korean action star Don Lee and Lee Jin Uk in a Netflix action-thriller film, Tygo.
In an announcement on Friday, Dec. 5, the upcoming film is the newest addition to the Extraction universe. It centers on Tygo (played by Don Lee), a former child soldier who has become a mercenary and embarks on a vengeance-fueled journey through Korea’s criminal underworld after a mission goes disastrously wrong.
The film will be based on an original graphic novel created by Anthony and Joe Russo with Ande Parks, and will be written by Cha Woo-jin and directed by Lee Sang-yong, who previously helmed Lee-starring films The Roundup and The Roundup: No Way Out.
It is set to be produced by Big Punch Pictures, AGBO, and TGIM, and co-produced by Nova Film Inc. and B&C Group, while Netflix while handle distribution.
Lisa, who previously starred in the third season of The White Lotus, said she's grateful to be part of this project.
“I’m so honored to be a part of this project and grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such incredible actors. Being in an action movie has always been a dream of mine, so for my film debut to be such an exciting project feels very special," she said in a statement, per Variety.
“Tygo brings a distinctly Korean identity into the global ‘Extraction’ universe. We can’t wait to unleash its explosive energy on audiences worldwide," Lee added.
For his part, Jin Uk, who starred in Squid Game and Sweet Home, said it's a "great honor" to star in the film, especially since he's a fan of the Extraction franchise.
More details about the other cast members and the release date have yet to be announced.
