The death of former child star Sophie Nyweide, who died at age 24, is under investigation for foul play. It was also found that she was pregnant at the time of her passing.

Citing the Bennington Police Department, PEOPLE Magazine reported that authorities are looking at a "possible unintentional overdose" in her case.

In a statement sent to TMZ, Nyweide's mother said she knew that the former child actress "was using drugs."

"She was with other people when she died. I didn't know them. There is an investigation ongoing. The autopsy results are not in. They said it would take six to eight weeks. So I can't say definitively," she added.

PEOPLE Magazine also reported that Nyweide was pregnant when she passed away, as indicated in her death certificate, though the circumstances surrounding her pregnancy remain unclear. An insider familiar with the case, however, told the media outlet that Nyweide "appeared to be in the early stages."

According to police, they responded to a 911 call from a man who was with Nyweide by the Roaring Branch River in Vermont. While Nyweide was able to receive assistance, she was declared dead at the scene on April 14.

Authorities said that the man is "cooperating with investigators," adding that a "thorough and compressive investigation" on her death and what led to it is being conducted.

Nyweide made her acting debut in the 2006 film Bella, followed by an episode of Law & Order and roles in And Then Came Love, Margot at the Wedding, and New York City Serenade a year later. She played the daughter of Gael Garcia Bernal and Michelle Williams' characters in the 2009 film Mammoth. She also appeared in Shadows & Lies, Mistakes Were Made, Born Again, and What Would You Do in the 2000s and mid-2010s.
