#FangirlGigs: Doh Kyung-soo showcases his vocal prowess, charm at 'Bloom' fancon in Manila

After waiting for six years, Filo EXO-Ls and Dandanies finally made another core memory with Doh Kyung-soo.

Coming back strong, D.O, showed off his vocal prowess as he performed his solo songs for a jam-packed crowd during his recently concluded two-night show at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

D.O. last visited the Philippines in 2018 during The ElyXiOn solo concert in Manila. He wasn’t able to join the group’s tour in 2019 as he had to enlist in the military in South Korea.

After finishing his military service in 2021, he made his solo debut with the EP dubbed Empathy, followed by second and third mini albums Expectation and Blossom.

Excited fans screamed their hearts out as D.O. finally took the stage and sang one of his newest songs, Mars

The 31-year-old K-pop idol explained that he chose “Bloom” as the title of his first solo fancon tour because it resonates with the theme of his newest album, which was released last May.

“Because the title of my album is Blossom, I was thinking, ‘What would be suitable for this fan concert?’ I kind of thought, maybe you guys could bloom beautifully while watching the concert,” he said, translated from Korean into English by an interpreter.

The night was a great mix of fun singalongs to tracks like Popcorn, and I Do as well as It’s Love and EXO’s Don’t Go.

The event was made more special with game segments where fans got to know him better—from how he likes his ramyun to how he was craving samgyupsal and Jollibee while he was on a diet in preparation for his first-ever villain role in upcoming drama, Sculptured City.

Other highlights of the affair are the screaming contest he did on every floor of the arena, his fun poses with some lucky fans through a split screen, and his surprise performance of his song Rose during a break.

Nearing the end of the show, the crowd kept on screaming, “Walang uuwi!” to which he quipped, “I have to go, I shouldn’t miss that flight.”

“Next time that I come back, I will be preparing a more fun concert for you guys,” he promised.

Wrapping up his last Asia stop before going back to Korea, Filo fans surprised him with an animated video, which text that read, “You being here is my consistent inspiration to do well in everything,” “Your light shines so brightly in everything that you do,” and “Kyung-soo ah, congratulations, you did well!”

For a fan like me who has been admiring Kyung-soo for a long time but was part of “Team Bahay” for years, finally getting to see him perform live, witnessing fellow fans exchanging gifts, and singing along to his tracks kept my fangirl heart alive.

It’s been over 10 years since he debuted in the K-pop scene. With his undying passion for his craft that makes him better over time, we can't wait to see all the amazing things he will do next in music and acting. EXO-Ls and Dandanies will always be at the front row to cheer him on.
