Ruru Madrid on cheating in relationships: 'Puwede pa rin magbago ang tao'
Ruru Madrid is confident people can change for the better, even those who cheat on their romantic partners.
In the Aug. 4 episode of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Madrid opened up about what he learned from cheating on his longtime girlfriend Bianca Umali in the past.
Describing himself as a "loyal" lover, Madrid said, "Kahit naman sinong tao, puwedeng magbago. Anumang klaseng pagkakamali 'yan, puwede pa rin magbago ang tao. Kasi ang Diyos nga natin, marunong magpatawad."
The actor added he was thankful that Umali forgave him for his mistake.
"'Yun 'yung pinagpapasalamat ko kay Bianca, na kahit na nagkamali ako during that time; I was 20 years old, at hindi ko naman sinasabi na dahilan na 'yung pagkabata ko sa ginawa kong pagkakamali," he said.
According to him, that period in their relationship was a "blessing in disguise" as it showed him the value Umali had in his life.
Following the cheating, the couple broke up for eight months before getting back together. They have been dating for eight years now.
"'Yung cheating, choice talaga siya," Madrid said, adding that the entertainment industry makes it easy to cheat. "Nasa sa 'yo na 'yun kung gusto mong magkamali."
Referring to Umali as his "Batas," Madrid said his girlfriend is one of the reasons he has not strayed again.
"Marami lang akong pinanghahawakan sa panahon ngayon at sa buhay ko ngayon na [puwede ko nang tanungin na] 'Bakit ko pa gagawin 'to?'" he said.
"Una sa lahat, napakaganda ni Bianca at hindi na ako makakahanap ng katulad niya. Hindi na ako makakahanap ng isang babaeng nagmahal sa 'kin ng katulad ng pagmamahal na binibigay niya," he continued.
Madrid added that in case he does get tempted in the future, "mananalangin ako." He has also set a reminder for himself: "Maaalala ko na ang Batas ay dapat sundin."
Both Kapuso stars, the longtime couple quietly began dating in 2018, only confirming their relationship in 2022. In later interviews, they have both spoken about finding "the one" in each other and being in talks about marriage.
