Rising 27-year-old Chinese actor Liang Youcheng reportedly died after suspected influenza complications on Jan. 30.

Malaysia-based The Star and the Singapore outlet Mothership reported that he first exhibited mild symptoms and was diagnosed with a common cold. His condition rapidly worsened and led to infections of the central nervous system.

Despite emergency treatment, Liang died in the hospital on the second day of Chinese New Year.

No family members were reportedly present.

On Chinese social media Weibo, users speculated that Liang's death might have been caused by complications from Type A influenza though it remains unverified at the moment.

Liang appeared in the Chinese television shows Echo Of Her Voice (2024) and My Heart (2021).

He was set to star in the upcoming series It Girl In Tang Dynasty.

The news of Liang's death came days after the passing of Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, who died of pneumonia after contracting flu during a Lunar New Year celebration in Japan.

According to reports, Japan recorded its highest number of weekly influenza cases since current records began, with 317,812 cases reported between Dec. 23 and 29, 2024. The figures come from the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare, based on reports from 5,000 designated medical institutions nationwide.
