Mark Herras on performing at a gay bar: 'Why not? Trabaho yun'
Mark Herras has something to say to his bashers.
Mark, who recently made headlines after performing at a gay bar, joined Toni Gonzaga’s YouTube talk show “Toni Talk” to discuss his dance number at a gay bar and the comments made about his career because of it.
“Why not? Trabaho yun eh,” he told Toni as he mentioned his recent guest appearance at Apollo Male Entertainment, which went viral on social media.
“Sumayaw ako kasi trabaho. Basta ang goal ko is to provide,” the actor continued.
Mark explained that colleagues offered him the gig and that he arrived as a guest performer.
“Dumating ako doon as a performer, as guest nila. Tulad ng ginagawa ko sa raket fiesta, pero nagkataon lang na gay bar siya,” he explained, saying there was nothing wrong with his performance.
“Hindi naman ako naghubad. Hindi naman ako sumayaw na parang macho dancer or what. I performed, I danced like hip-hop, ganun. Hindi naman ako nagpa-table or what.”
The dancer-actor acknowledged the stigma that surrounded the scene, as he said, “I know it’s a gay bar, pero kasi sa'tin diba, grabe ‘yung mga Filipino mag-judge ng tao. Akala nila meron silang karapatan mag-judge sa mga buhay ng ibang tao.”
Other than the backlash that came with dancing in a gay bar, comments were also made about his career.
“Yung mga sinasabi nila about me, yung nagpabaya… Hindi ako nagpabaya. Kuntento na ako sa narating ko, and nagkataon na wala na talaga masyadong offers.”
The actor’s priorities have shifted since having a family of his own. He stated that he accepts work opportunities that help him provide for his family.
He married Nicole Donesa in 2022 and welcomed their child into the world the same year. Last December on Christmas Eve, the couple announced that they were expecting another baby.
He said: “Ang target ko now is to provide for my family. To provide for my wife with upcoming two kids na. Kuntento ako sa buhay ko. Hindi ko kailangan pumunta ulit sa part ng career ko na yun. Mahirap yun eh.”
Mark is known for winning the GMA reality talent show StarStruck in 2004. He is known appeared in the network’s series Abot-Kamay Na Pangarap, Encantadia, SOP, and more.
