Nicolas Cage's ex sues him and their son over alleged assault

Christina Fulton, the ex-girlfriend of Nicolas Cage, is taking legal action against their son Weston for alleged physical assault. She is also suing the actor for allegedly allowing the attack to happen.
According to a report by PEOPLE, Christina accused Nicolas of disregarding their son's declining mental health and enabling his behavior ahead of what allegedly happened between them in April last year, where Weston supposedly had a verbal fight with his mother that eventually turned physical.
"Weston has a long history of mental and psychological disorder and a history of committing violent assault and battery and harming numerous individuals," Christina said in the lawsuit.
"Nicolas has been aware of Weston's history and nevertheless failed to take action to prevent Weston from committing acts of violence and harming others," she added.
She went on to claim that the actor knew about their son's "substance abuse history" and would often bail him out of jail.
Nicolas was also accused of not giving Weston "necessary psychiatric" help, supporting his "reckless" lifestyle, and not setting rules for Weston to stop his alleged behavior.
"Nicolas knew or should have known that Weston posed a serious and imminent danger to others, including Plaintiff, based on his documented history of violent assaults, substance abuse, and mental instability," she said.
Christina claimed that the attack left her with a brain concussion, multiple contusions, a disfiguring eye injury, dental trauma, PTSD, and psychological damages that have "required extensive medical care, surgeries, and treatments."
Because of these, her life was said to have been "derailed" as she was unable to film, appear at brand promotion events, and run her business effectively.
In a statement to the news outlet, Nicolas' attorney called the accusations "absurd and frivolous," arguing that the actor "does not control Weston's behavior in any manner and is not responsible for Weston's alleged assault of his mother."
Weston's attorney, Michael Goldstein, meanwhile described Christina's lawsuit as "not surprising given her past history of litigation against family members."
"It appears to be nothing short of a money grab and call for attention. Ms. Fulton correctly advised the responding LAPD officers that her son was in the midst of a mental-health crisis at the time of this incident. We will deal with this appropriately, and in a courtroom," he said.
Christina and Nicolas welcomed Weston in 1990 and broke up in the same year.
