Kathryn Bernardo shares why she and Daniel Padilla will work on projects separately
KathNiel is surely supportive of each other, and we're all here for it!
As we all know, Kathryn Bernardo is the other half of KathNiel—one of the biggest reel-to-real love teams in the showbiz industry. While some fans miss the tandem seeing them on the big screen after their blockbuster hit, The Hows of Us, Kathryn revealed that they mutually decided to do solo projects this time.
Kathyrn opened up about this during the media conference of her upcoming movie A Very Good Girl with BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Dolly De Leon.
“I really talked to Deej [Daniel] before saying yes to the project. Sabi ko, ‘Love, is it okay if I want to do something alone muna? Promise wala akong ka-love team, wala akong ka-partner. Wala muna," Kathyrn said.
"Siya [Daniel] din gusto niya gumawa which is a project he'll be doing with Dan [Villegas] naman. So, it was a personal choice for the both of us na we wanted to do something alone muna."
So what are the projects the 27-year-old actress wants to accomplish independently? Kathryn said they would have to focus on women empowerment.
"I want to do something na may kinalaman sa kababaihan, I want to inspire them. I want to empower them," she said.
Kathryn added, “I really want to do something na involve ‘yung mga kababaihan, because I think ‘yan ‘yung kailangan nating I-tackle sa nangyayari sa mundo ngayon."
In a separate interview, the actress said that although she and Daniel will take on solo projects this year, she isn’t really worried that their love team “might fade,” especially now that the Philippine film industry landscape has changed.
“Hindi ko 'yun iniisip kasi iba na 'yung sitwasyon natin. Basta lalabas sila sa sinehan at pag-uusapan 'yung movie, idi-discuss 'yung mga opinions nila, 'yun masaya na kami. More than that, hindi ko na iniisip," she said, as reported by ABS-CBN News.
"Importante, magkasama kami off-cam pero sobrang supportive lang siya rito sa 'kin. Happy siya kasi alam niyang sobrang saya ko everytime na nagsu-shoot ako for this movie," she added.
Daniel, for his part, previously said that there’s actually no need for them to do solo projects as he and Kathryn have already contributed a lot to the country's filmmaking industry. However, they still chose to do so to help raise the quality of Filipino films.
Other than A Very Good Girl, fans can anticipate Kathryn in the period drama Elena 1944. Meanwhile, Daniel will star in the action-thriller film The Guest with John Arcilla and the comedy film Nang Mapagod si Kamatayan with Zanjoe Marudo.
