KC Concepcion says acceptance is key to being in a blended family
KC Concepcion admitted to struggles in her blended family but noted that acceptance is the key.
In a YouTube vlog by journalist Karmina Constantino, the actress spoke once again about the complications that come in her family setup.
She admits to not having a full sense of belongingness despite both her parents' families welcoming her.
"I don't feel that I 1,000% belong to either family[.] There will always be blurred lines," she shared.
"But when I accepted the reality of my position and the reality of the setup, it's like, how [it's like] structured. And I understand the side of my step-parents that, oh my God, they're just people. It's hard to have me," she shared.
"It's hard enough to take into consideration the possibilities kapag may anak and then it's not yours. 'Yung gano'n. But they've been watched this whole time," she added, detailing the pressure on her extended family.
For KC, acceptance is key to living in a unique family dynamic involving both her parents' families.
"I'm so appreciative, and it's no longer about belonging or being an outsider or not. It's just the acceptance," she bared. "So that realization, that acceptance and understanding of that world of mom's family, papa's family, and me and my future family was a breakthrough for me."
She also hopes to be an inspiration to those who share a similar family setup, "I love this unique position I've been placed in, and I hope I make it right."
KC also shared that now she's in her 40s, opening up about these things to her parents, particularly her mother, Sharon Cuneta.
"These are things that I can talk to her about without her maybe thinking it the wrong way. I'll just tell her straight na, 'Okay, hear me out. This is my situation, but don't worry. There's no blaming,'" she said.
"I'm just saying that there are things, tension here and there. Sa hangin, may mga tension diyan na hindi natin makokontrol. And I don't expect na ikokontrol mo. Nandiyan lang 'yung mga lingering things na beyond our control, and it's okay."
Sharon and KC have been open about having a stormy relationship in the past.
KC is the only daughter of Sharon Cuneta with actor Gabby Concepcion. The former pair tied the knot in 1984, three years after the premiere of their film, Dear Heart. They welcomed KC a year later but got legally separated in 1987. Their marriage was annulled in 1993.
In October 2025, KC admitted to being reconciled with her mom.
