Usher removes fan from stage following awkward moment
Usher stopped one of his routines during a concert after sharing an awkward moment with a fan.
The incident happened during the OMG singer's show with Chris Brown at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium as part of their R&B Tour on July 25.
In a viral Instagram video, Usher could be seen bringing a fan up on stage, serenading her on their way to a bed. A shirtless Usher stood up from a kneeling position, leaned in, and closed in on her face. The fan could be seen maintaining a poker face and leaning away from the performer.
Usher stopped the performance, looked back to the crowd, saying, “I don’t think she [wants] to be on the stage.” He then walked off and gestured to staff to remove the fan from the stage.
The viral moment has since earned backlash from fans, with some praising the woman for not giving in to the routine.
"She literally could've said no to going up there[.] I don't get it," one user on Instagram commented.
"To all y'all saying shy did she go on stage, does going mean she's his toy?" one retorted on TikTok.
Others also lauded Usher for recognizing that the woman was uncomfortable.
"I give him credit that he realized she was not into it and did not proceed," another user wrote.
The fan, identified as Gabrielle Cheyenne, hit back at her critics in a Facebook post.
“First off NOBODY is declining to go on stage,” she began. “I looked good [as f**k] you thought I wasn’t gonna let THOUSANDS of people see me?? On the big screen, where you b*****s will never be????” she wrote.
Cheyenne then claimed the concert team approached her and moved her to the VIP section before the show started. However, they didn't tell her who she would join on stage. The fan added that she went to the show for Chris Brown.
Usher and Brown’s R&B Tour began in June and will continue through December across North America.
