By Ratziel San Juan Published Mar 29, 2023 10:01 am

ADOR, the HYBE subsidiary that manages K-pop girl group NewJeans, has announced its 2023 global audition called "The Real Hype Boys."

The name of the global audition directly references NewJeans' hit song Hype Boy.

The first online application will take place on the ADOR official website from noon (Philippine time) between March 28 and April 13.

Those who pass the first online application will then be notified individually about the time and location of the second in-person audition before the application period ends.

Only males born between 2004 and 2012 (10 to 19 years old) may participate in the 2023 ADOR Global Audition. In contrast, NewJeans' eldest member and leader Minji was born on May 7, 2004 and is currently 18 years old, while maknae (youngest member) Hyein was born on April 21, 2008 and is 14 years old.

Applicants can audition individually or in a team with no limit on team size, but all team members must apply individually.

"We welcome applications from applicants with any talent they can showcase," ADOR said.

It is common in South Korea to have male and female counterparts of K-pop idol groups, whether officially recognized or otherwise. These include JYP Entertainment's ITZY and StrayKids, SM Entertainment's Girls' Generation (SNSD) and Super Junior, and YG Entertainment's 2NE1 and BIGBANG.

NewJeans has set local and international music records for K-pop and entered the fashion and beauty industries as brand representatives individually and collectively. They even promote the South Korean capital of Seoul as its official ambassadors.
