Shawn Mendes cancels the rest of his world tour to focus on mental health

Shawn Mendes has called off his world tour with his health as his first priority.

On Wednesday, July 27, the 23-year-old singer announced on social media that he will be calling off the rest of his Wonder world tour for North America, United Kingdom, and Europe.

This comes almost three weeks since the Treat You Better star announced that he was postponing his shows through Uncasvill, Connecticut, which was scheduled on July 29.

In his latest statement, Mendes admitted to not being fully prepared to bear the brunt of the world tour after spending some time away during the pandemic.

"As you guys know, I had to postpone the past few weeks of shows since I wasn't totally prepared for the toll the bring back on the road would take on me," the music superstar said.

"I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away," he continued.

The singer-songwriter added that he consulted with his team and group of health professionals to conclude that he needed to cancel all the remaining shows in his world tour.

“[I]t has become more clear that I need to take the time I’ve never taken personally, to ground myself and come back stronger,” wrote Mendes.

"I unfortunately have to cancel the rest of the tour dates in North America, and the UK/Europe," he continued. "We were hopeful that I might be able to pick up with the rest of the dates after some much needed priority, but at this time I have to put my health as my first priority."

Despite the cancellation, Mendes cleared out that he will continue to make music and promised fans his return.

“I promise I will be back as soon as I’ve taken the right time to heal,” said Mendes.

“I love you all and thank you all so much for supporting me and sticking by me on this journey.”

In an interview with PEOPLE last July 11, an unnamed source said that Mendes is "getting help" in recovering his mental health.

"Shawn is a very sensitive and caring guy," the insider said. "When he gets frustrated with things around him, he turns inward and suffers. He said he is getting help so that is admirable."

Mendes started his Wonder world tour in Portland, Oregon on June 27. It was supposed to run through August 2023.
