LOOK: How local beauty queens brought glitz and glam to the Vogue Philippines Gala

By Brooke Villanueva Published Aug 30, 2022 3:02 pm

What an evening of beauty and radiance!

Vogue Philippines has officially been launched—and in a sea of the country’s bright stars in black and white, we got our eyes on our favorite beauty queens who brought no less than glitz and glam to the highly anticipated event.

Held at the Grand Ballroom of Shangri-La The Fort, a noticeable element that stood out in the Filipina beauties was their hint of skin in their chosen numbers. From mini dresses to full-length gowns, check out how our pageant bets turned heads with their subtle kind of sexy looks at the dazzling affair.

Pia Wurtzbach (Miss Universe 2015)

You can always count on Pia Wurtzbach to captivate audiences with her appearance. At the recently concluded gala, the former Miss Universe titleholder opted for a Gucci gown with some black to match the theme and lots of shine in gold and silver for a striking appeal. She took things further with the classic smokey eye and balanced it all out by wearing her hair down.

Catriona Gray (Miss Universe 2018)

Catriona Gray was a breath of fresh air for two reasons: her sustainable mini dress and her decision to show up ethereal in white. Made by Jaggy Glarino, the creation she rocked “is made using recycled polyurethane plastic bottles” and “crafted exquisitely into roses.” To put the spotlight on her outfit, she kept her hair in a bun and finished off her look in custom-made MX Studio shoes with some Bulgari jewels for more glitter.

Kylie Verzosa (Miss International 2016)

We’re definitely here for Kylie Verzosa’s black and white ensemble that captured the essence of her perfection. The beauty queen and actress’ crop top gown also featured a thigh-high slit without being too flashy, all thanks to the brilliant Mark Bumgarner. She layered it with a puffy white cape and accessorized with silver necklace and earrings.

Megan Young (Miss World 2013)

Megan Young slayed the carpet in a Marc Rancy creation featuring some sheer elements and shiny beads for added oomph. She paired her look with wavy hair and warm makeup that made her look all the more divine.

Celeste Cortesi (Miss Universe Philippines 2022)

Celeste Cortesi arrived at the ball in a silk velvet gown by Gladi Echavarre that, in the latter’s words, “is so plush and luxurious yet so sexy and sultry only a vixen who slays can handle.” We particularly love how she amped up her dress that somewhat resembles a sexy gym outfit—a sporty crop top with long sleeves—without compromising on elegance and formality. She topped it off with some hoop earrings and high ponytail.

Rabiya Mateo (Miss Universe Philippines 2020)

Looking a bit similar to Cortesi’s gown, Rabiya Mateo’s creation has a “black sequin off-shoulder fit, detailed with rose pattern draping,” as explained by designer Kerby Zata. She had glitter from head to toe, but her LVNA earrings made her appearance look extra without being too overwhelming.

Vogue Philippines was officially launched on Monday, Aug. 29 with Filipino-American model Chloe Magno on the cover through a special tie-up with Mega Global Licensing Inc. "The Filipino talent has been ready to be received by the world for decades now and with certainty. I can say that the market, too, is finally ready," MGLI's chairman and chief executive Archie Carrasco said in an official statement.
