Ashley Tisdale shares why she publicly changed her name

Published Nov 19, 2025 2:11 pm

Ashley no longer goes by the surname "Tisdale."

The High School Musical star recently shared on Tiktok that she has decided to adopt her marital name professionally as she expands her Frenshe wellness brand.

“I’ve been Ashley French for so long at home,” the 40-year-old star who married husband Christopher French in 2014 explained. “But I’ve never really changed [my name] publicly because everybody knows me as Ashley Tisdale. I just felt like it was time for people to know me for me, and not just for a character or a celebrity.”

She added that she wanted her social media channels to reflect her recently launched blog site's name, "By Ashley French," where she would chronicle her motherhood to her children: Jupiter, 4 years old, and Emerson, 13 months old.

The name change has been reflected on her Instagram as of writing.

On her website, she also shared some insights into the name change.

"As for the name? When I got married, I took my husband’s last name. This project felt like the perfect moment to embrace this version of myself and celebrate everything that’s come with it," she said in the "About" section.

"On socials, you’ve seen glimpses into my world, but I wanted to share a fuller picture. That led me to create a space that feels more personal, where I can be my most authentic self. By Ashley French is an introduction to who I am now, and a place where I can share the things that inspire me, ground me, and make everyday life feel a little more meaningful."

Tisdale is known for portraying Sharpay Evans in the High School Musical movies and as the voice of Candace Flynn in the 2007 Disney animated series Phineas and Ferb.
