Ninong Ry chronicles flooding in Malabon due to Typhoon Carina

By NICK GARCIA Published Jul 24, 2024 2:07 pm

Food content creator Ninong Ry is chronicling the massive flooding he's dealing with in his hometown Malabon as Typhoon Carina (international name Gaemi)—and the southwest monsoon or habagat it's enhancing—rages.

On Facebook Live on July 24, Ry updated his fans, assuring them that his family is safe and that they had moved several things to higher ground.

"Medyo nagkatarantahan dito kanina kasi umabot ('yung baha) sa outlet," he said, adding that they shut the breaker last minute.

He noted that they still have food ingredients in their refrigerator ready for cooking and leftovers for reheating.

Ry noted that it would take a while for him to shoot content again as there would be a lot of cleaning to do.

In a Reel earlier in the day, the content creator shared a first-person video of the situation on his doorstep.

"Naku baha na," he says while moving the camera a bit to show the water. "Sara natin baka pumasok 'yung tubig. Buti na lang," he continues as he shuts the screen door.

In a previous post, Ry shared selfies of him while standing in floodwaters—without skimping on his signature humor.

The photos showed the flood level above his knee outdoors. The flood has also entered his house's kitchen, living room, and office.

"Baha update. I’m trying my best to stay positive pero habang palubog ng palubog ang itlog ko, pahirap ng pahirap," he said.

On July 23, Ry uploaded a sponsorship video for a chicken brand while he and his editor Ian faced floodwaters below the knee.

Before that, he also shared a Reel of himself carrying his dog Tofu as he crosses the flood that has reached the thigh. He noted that he has already relocated his other dogs.

"'Yung sasakyan dito lubog na. 'Yung itlog mo kita na," he says.

He also joked about how their plants have become "underwater plants," as garbage is scattered all over.

Ry rose to the vlogging scene in 2020 and has collaborated with several vloggers and celebrities, including Bea Alonzo, Sarah Geronimo, Chef Boy Logro, Abi Marquez, Erwan Heussaff, and more.

He also made his acting debut in the 2023 horror film Shake, Rattle & Roll Extreme with Iza Calzado, Jane Oineza, RK Bagatsing, Donna Cariaga, and AC Bonifacio, among others.

According to PAGASA's 11 a.m. advisory, the habagat enhanced by Carina will bring moderate to intense rainfall over various localities in the western portion of Luzon until Friday, July 26.

Carina is forecast to make landfall over northern Taiwan in the afternoon if not early evening. But before its landfall, the state weather bureau noted it could reach the Super Typhoon category.

Carina is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday morning, July 25.
