'Bling Empire' star Lynn Ban undergoes brain surgery after skiing accident
Lynn Ban, a renowned jewelry designer starring in Bling Empire: New York, got into a skiing accident while on vacation that led to her needing emergency brain surgery.
The 51-year-old opened up about how her life changed "in a blink of an eye" as she posted photos from her trip to Aspen and from when she was in the hospital after getting a craniotomy.
"Christmas Eve on a beautiful sunny day in Aspen on vacation with my family, I had a ski accident that would change my life. At the top of the mountain, I caught a tip and face planted," she wrote.
To her luck, Ban was wearing a helmet. She continued to share that it "didn't seem that bad" at the time as she was able to ski to the bottom.
The jewelry designer then sought medical attention from ski patrol and was later cleared. She then began to get a headache and went to a hospital to get a CAT scan.
"[Within] 30 minutes they told us I had a brain bleed and needed to be airlifted to the trauma hospital. Last thing I [remembered] was being intubated and waking up after an emergency craniotomy with Jett (Kain) by my side."
According to the Cleveland Clinic, a brain bleed, or a brain hemorrhage, is a type of stroke wherein blood pools between your brain and skull, preventing oxygen from reaching your brain. It's life-threatening and requires quick treatment.
Some symptoms of a brain bleed include sudden tingling, weakness, numbness, or paralysis of the face, arm, or leg; a sudden, severe headache; nausea and vomiting; confusion; dizziness; slurred speech; and lack of energy and sleepiness.
During a craniotomy, a part of the bone from the skull is removed to relieve pressure within the brain that may be caused by traumatic injury or stroke.
Ban's Bling Empire: New York co-star Dorothy Wang expressed her support to the jewelry designer, writing, "Omg Lynn, I have chills. So happy you are okay and have your incredible tribe by your side. Sending you all my love and wishing you healing."
Her friends in the fashion industry also sent their love and wishes for a speedy recovery.
Bling Empire is a Netflix reality show on the lives of the wildly wealthy East and Southeast Asian Americans in Los Angeles, and later New York.
