American actor Jeremy Renner got run over by his truck-sized snow-moving equipment weighing 6,500kg (14,330lbs), local police said, leading to heavy bleeding in the head and crushing his upper torso.

In a press conference Jan. 3 (Jan. 4 Manila time), Washoe County Sheriff's Office said Renner, 51, was in his PistenBully, helping a family member who got stuck using his car on the snow-covered private road near his home in Nevada last Jan. 2.

There had been three feet of snow in the area the previous night, Sheriff Darin Balaam said, and multiple cars had been abandoned.

After clearing the snow, Renner went out of his PistenBully to speak with the family member, when it started to roll.

In an effort to stop the PistenBully, Balaam said, Renner attempted to get back to the driver's seat but it already ran over him.

“He attempted to try and get into the driver’s seat of the PistenBully," Balaam said, "but it was at this point that he was run over by the PistenBully."

Renner also "disappeared," a neighbor who witnessed the incident told authorities, and reportedly saw him behind the equipment afterward.

Tabloid news website TMZ also obtained the 911 emergency log during Renner's accident. In the call, Renner was reportedly moaning in the background, as he was experiencing heavy bleeding and other injuries.

The log also states he was having "extreme difficulty" breathing, as his chest collapsed after the equipment crushed his upper torso.

No other details are available, including the procedures Renner went through.

Authorities already ruled out foul play, and noted that it was a "tragic accident."

His representative initially said he's in "critical but stable" condition after experiencing a weather-related accident while plowing snow.

Renner's family also issued a separate statement confirming he suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries. He has already undergone surgery, his family said, and remains in the intensive care unit.

They also thanked fans, saying they're "tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support."

Renner is best known for playing Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He most recently played the character in the eponymous Disney+ series.

He also got Academy Award nominations for his performances in The Hurt Locker (2008) and The Town (2010).
