VIRAL: BINI member Maloi Ricalde draws laughs after sharpening fan's pencil

For music fans, it would already be their dream come true if their favorite idols even look at their way, but Maloi Ricalde from the Filipino girl group BINI took fan service to another level when she sharpened her fan's pencil.

A recent video making the rounds on X shows Maloi getting mobbed by excited BINI fans. While most snapping pics and squealing, one fan stood out. Instead, they offered Maloi something unexpected: a pencil and a sharpener.

Despite the frenzy around her, Maloi took the items in stride. Even holding a giant bouquet in one hand, the singer wasted no time and sharpened the pencil.

The clip has since gone viral online, with many social media users expressing their amusement at the scene while also praising Maloi for honoring her fan's one-of-a-kind request.

"This is another level of fan service. Your idols could never," one user wrote.

One fan added, "No ‘cause out of approximately 8000 people, maloi really saw the one who’s been extending their arm with a pencil and decided to do the funniest (and most endearing) thing possible."

In another post, it was revealed that the pencil belonged to a test-taker who is scheduled to have her board exam in the coming months. Unfortunately, it seemed like Maloi's efforts to sharpen it were futile as it was unfinished.

Others noted the fan's request isn't something peculiar as many follow the culture of asking someone they idolize or respect to sharpen the pencils they'll use to take the exam for good luck.

"For those of you that don't know, test takers (boards, etc.) usually ask this to previous passers. It's a belief of some sort. Pa-good luck kumbaga. This is actually so cute (syempre funny pa din WAHAHAHA)," one user explained.

BINI, composed of Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena, is currently gearing up for their first-ever solo show on June 28 and 29 at the New Frontier Theater.
