A couple getting engaged is a beautiful sight as they are one step closer to their happily ever after. Though it is true that the proposal is usually the star of the show, the ring, which is the couple's symbol of love and commitment to each other, oftentimes steals the spotlight.
Recently, Luis Manzano proposed to Jessy Mendiola while they were on vacation in Amanpulo with a ring that reportedly had between 3 to 4 carats and was worth about P5 million. The controversy about the engagement, ring of course, is another separate story.
In show business, many celebrities share the happy news of their engagement on social media by flaunting their engagement rings—some quite discretely, and others just in-your-face-I-have-a-huge-rock post. Here’s a look at some of the stunning Pinoy celebrity engagement rings that are worth the precious words "yes" and "I do."
Dr. Vicki Belo
Before Doctors Vicki Belo and Hayden Kho said their "I do’s" in lavish fashion in Paris, which was dubbed the “Wedding of the Year” in 2017, there was the engagement ring. The couple got engaged in 2011.
Nine days before the wedding (which was reportedly worth a whopping P80 million) Vicki posted on Instagram a photo of a stunning engagement ring that her then fiancé Hayden gave her. She captioned the photo, “The engagement ring is beautiful but what’s more beautiful is the love story behind it.”
Though the doctor to the stars did not give much details about the rock, her eagle-eyed followers pointed out that engraved in the ring was “Graff,” as in the London-based British luxury designer jeweler. Many also believe that the stunning sparkler is an Ashoka-cut diamond, one of the rarest cuts in the world that “only a few will ever possess it. It is a diamond without an equal,” according to its website.
Marian Rivera
Kapuso actor Dingdong Dantes did not just propose once, but twice to girlfriend Marian Rivera. First was a low-key wedding proposal in Macau in 2012 without all the fanfare, and second was in 2014 during Marian’s now defunct eponymous variety show.
After the on-cam proposal, Marian posted on Instagram a photo of the Harry Winston ring, sitting pretty on a velvet-lined box.
The ring was said to be the Classic Winston, the brand’s iconic style. The emerald-cut diamond on the center was reportedly at 2.13 carats. The rock is highlighted by two tapered baguettes on both sides, which are set on a platinum band. Marian did not disclose the amount of the ring but it has been reported that at the time, Harry Winston engagement rings are worth between $5,000 (about P240,000) and $500,000 (about P24 million). Heart Evangelista
Fashion maven Heart Evangelista and then senator Chiz Escudero set the entertainment industry and social media abuzz when they got engaged in 2014.
Of course, fans quickly looked for the ring of the real-life “crazy rich Asian.” Right after the proposal, some of Heart’s close friends who were there to witness senator Chiz popping the question posted the ring on social media, where the glimmering 2-carat, heart-shaped diamond ring was revealed.
The ring was reportedly an Escudero family heirloom, which Heart had religiously worn until they got married in Balesin in 2015.
Angel Locsin
Kapamilya actress Angel Locsin got engaged with movie producer Neila Arce in June 2019. Angel announced the engagement on her Instagram page with a photo of the couple kissing, with the camera focused on Angel’s finger with the ring on it.
Neil chose a 4.24-carat bespoke princess-cut diamond ring from Miladay Jewels, which is known for its timeless and luxurious pieces. The piece reportedly costs P2 million.
The couple, which has been together for more than a year, and friends for over a decade, was supposed to get married in November but it had to be postponed because of the pandemic.
Sarah Lahbati
In 2017, it was at the scenic snow-capped Swiss mountain in Zermatt where actor Richard Gutierrez popped the question to his girlfriend Sarah Lahbati. At the time, they are parents to four-year-old Zion. They now have a younger son, Kai, who is two years old.
The snapshot of the engagement featured the couple with the background of the famous peak of the Matterhorn, and of course, Sarah proudly showing off her ring. Even just in the photo, the ring looked obviously massive. Apparently, it really is.
The sparkler was reportedly a 2-carat, round brilliant-cut diamond ring in platinum/white gold pavé setting which costs about P2 million. Richard sought help from her mom Annabelle Rama, who discretely wore different diamond rings when meeting with Sarah to see which one her future-daughter-in-law liked best.
Cristalle Henares Pitt
Being an heiress to a beauty empire set up by her mom, Dr. Vicki Belo, it is only fitting that Cristalle Henares Pitt's engagement ring be a stunner.
Cristalle and her then fiancé, Australian hotelier Justin Pitt, were on vacation in the Maldives when they got engaged in 2015. Justin popped the question to Cristalle with a 3-carat, cushion-cut diamond surrounded by pavé diamonds. With a halo setting, the huge diamond sits on a band that is studded with, what else, diamonds.
Justin revealed in an Instagram post that the engagement ring (and their wedding rings) was by renowned jewelry designer Stephen Lloyd. Like her mom, Cristalle did not disclose the price of her ring but experts say it costs… a lot!
Justin and Cristalle are now parents to Hunter, two; and eight-month-old Siena.
Isabelle Daza
French businessman Adrien Semblat asked Isabelle Daza’s hand in marriage while on a trip in Cappadocia, Turkey in 2015.
The couple had initially kept mum about the engagement but months after, Isabelle announced it on social media along with a magazine editorial shoot in Marrakech, Morocco.
Isabelle said yes to Adrien, who gave her a pear-shaped diamond ring in pavé setting and platinum band by Oro China (of which Isabelle is a brand ambassador). Before proposing to Isabelle, Adrien and his mom reportedly had the engagement ring blessed first in a church in France.
