Rob Reiner and wife's official cause of death revealed

Published Dec 18, 2025 9:36 am

The official cause of death of Rob Reiner and his wife has been determined by authorities.

According to a report by PEOPLE Magazine, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office found that the couple died of multiple sharp force injuries, or impact produced by a weapon or any sharp object.

Their deaths were ruled a homicide.

Rob and his wife Michele were found dead in their home in Los Angeles on Sunday, Dec. 14. Multiple reports said they had been stabbed or had their throats slit.

Their son Nick was arrested for murder later in the day. According to US media reports, he had argued with his parents at a glitzy Hollywood party hosted by Conan O'Brien the prior evening.

Nick made his first appearance in court on Wednesday, Dec. 17. In a very brief hearing thronged by media, he did not enter a plea on two counts of first-degree murder over the crime.

The 32-year-old, who has a troubled history of addiction, is next expected to appear in court on Jan. 7 for a formal arraignment.

Lawyer Alan Jackson told reporters outside the court the case needed to be treated with "restraint and with dignity."

"This is a devastating tragedy that has befallen the Reiner family," he said. "There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case. These need to be thoroughly but very carefully dealt with and examined and looked at and analyzed."

If convicted, he could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty. (with reports from Huw Griffith, AFP)
