Gore, profanity lovin' Tarantino shows Despicable Me to two-year-old; says he likes, watches Peppa Pig 'a lot'

Quentin Tarantino—writer, actor, cinephile, film critic, and auteur known for his gory, violent, profanity-laden, foot fetish-filled movies—appears to have gone against the grain in introducing his two-year-old son to the world of cinema.

Apparently, the first movie the award-winning, industry-defining Tarantino showed his son Leo is no less than Despicable Me, the animated comedy popular for its cute yellow creatures called Minions.

“[My son is] pretty young, so he’s only really seen one movie,” Tarantino told film magazine Empire. “I thought I was hitting a Minions cartoon, and I realize it’s Despicable Me Part 2."

Tarantino noted that Leo "seemed to be interested in the opening credits," and he proceeded watching the movie with his son intermittently over the coming days.

"We watched it for 20 minutes, until it was time for him to go to the park, and then the next day we watched another 15 minutes of it," he said. "And so, in the course of a week, in small bites, the first movie Leo ever watched was Despicable Me Part 2."

But Tarantino was just about done. Channeling his inner film critic, he said Despicable Me Part 2 is "more consuming" than Peppa Pig, the popular British preschool animated television series about the adventures of an anthropomorphic female piglet.

Still, he clarified that he "actually" likes Peppa Pig and watches it "a lot."

"I’ll say it: Peppa Pig is the greatest British import of this decade," Tarantino noted.

Tarantino is known for Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

He's married to singer Daniella Pick since 2018. Aside from Leo, they also have a daughter born last July 2.
