'I do not want to reconcile': Brooklyn Beckham claims parents have been controlling him most of his life
The Beckham family saga continues.
On Monday, Jan. 19, eldest son Brooklyn Beckham went on social media to make several claims about his famous family, asserting that they tried to control him for years, and that he has no intention of reconciling with them.
In his Instagram Stories, Brooklyn, 26, wrote he wanted to break his years-long silence about his family's issues and "tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed."
"I do not want to reconcile with my family. I'm not being controlled. I'm standing up for myself for the first time in my life," he began.
Brooklyn claimed his parents, former football legend David and former Spice Girl and now fashion designer Victoria, have been controlling narratives about their family his whole life.
"My family values public promotion and endorsements above all else. Brand Beckham comes first," the former model wrote.
"The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards. I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life," he added.
Brooklyn also claimed his parents have been constantly trying to break up his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz, whom he married in 2022.
The conflict with his wife started before the wedding, Brooklyn claimed, when his mother backed out of making his wife's wedding dress at the last minute, forcing Peltz to urgently find a new dress.
Then, weeks before the wedding, Brooklyn claimed his "parents repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name, which would have affected me, my wife, and our future children."
"They were adamant on me signing before my wedding date because then the terms of the deal would be initiated. My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since," he continued.
The wedding planning was also fraught with hurt, Brooklyn claimed, saying his mother called him "evil" for seating his and Peltz's respective grandmothers with them during the wedding reception while the couple's parents had their own separate tables.
He added that the night before the wedding, members of his family said Peltz was "not blood" and "not family."
His first dance with his new bride, which they were supposed to do with Marc Anthony singing live, didn't go as planned, either, because of his mother, Brooklyn claimed.
"In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I've never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life," he wrote.
To make "new memories" of their wedding, he said, he and Peltz renewed their vows in 2025. His family was not invited to the ceremony.
Despite his wife being "consistently disrespected by my family," Brooklyn claimed he and Peltz still travelled to London for his father's 50th birthday celebration. Although the couple repeatedly tried to spend quality time with Brookyn's dad, David "refused all of our attempts, unless it was at his big birthday party with a hundred guests and cameras at every corner."
Brooklyn claimed when his dad finally agreed to meet with him, it was under the condition that Peltz would not be present.
"I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared. I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose, and have found peace and relief," he concluded.
It can be recalled that when David posted a series of photos on social media celebrating his 50th birthday, both Brooklyn and Peltz were not included.
Beckham family saga
The rift between the two parties started in 2022 when Victoria allegedly failed to make Peltz's wedding dress.
"When Nicola and Brooklyn [Beckham] got engaged, Victoria told Nicola that she'd love to make her wedding dress, and Nicola said it would be her honor, that she would love to wear one of her originals," a source previously shared with PEOPLE Magazine.
The source added Victoria ultimately didn’t prioritize the dress and allegedly told Peltz’s mother, not Nicola, that she wouldn’t make it.
"Nicola was painted as a brat for not wearing Victoria Beckham at the wedding," the source said, noting that Nicola had worn Victoria's designs on numerous occasions. "She'd gone to a ton of Victoria Beckham fashion shows and events in Victoria's clothing. She even wore Victoria Beckham to her Lola movie premiere."
In 2022, Peltz dispelled the rumors, saying, "I was going to [wear Victoria Beckham] and I really wanted to, and then a few months down the line, she realized that her atelier couldn't do it, so then I had to pick another dress. She didn't say you can't wear it; I didn't say I didn't want to wear it. That's where it started, and then they ran with that," she told Variety at the time.
The last time Brooklyn was seen with the Beckhams was during Christmas 2024. The couple skipped David's 50th birthday in May 2025 and last year's Christmas with the family.
