Andrew Garfield reacts to Alex Eala's 'inspiring' win over Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon
Filipinos weren't the only ones amazed by Alex Eala's Wimbledon run—even international stars rooted for the Pinay tennis ace.
In a video posted by British Vogue on July 8, actor Andrew Garfield shared his thoughts on the 21-year-old athlete's win over the 2025 champion, Iga Swiatek.
"It's one of those special moments you get to share with an athlete who's just beginning on her journey, and it was really kind of inspiring, actually," the Amazing Spider-Man star said.
One Day star Ambika Mod also shared that she was rooting for Eala to win the championship this year.
"I mean, after today, I'd really like Alexandra to win it all. That would be such an underdog story," she said.
"And it's so nice to see young women achieving their dreams."
Eala made history during her Wimbledon campaign, as she's the first Filipino to reach the Round of 16.
On July 24, she delivered her biggest win against defending champion Swiatek, 7-6 (11-9), 6-2.
Her campaign was cut short by Italy's Jasmine Paolini on July 6 with 4-6, 6-4. 6-3.
Garfield and Mod were spotted in the Centre Court stands during Eala and Swiatek's match, alongside other stars Tom Hiddleston and Michaela Coel. The celebrities were seen cheering on their feet when Eala made her winning shot.
Following her historic Wimbledon run, Eala is returning to the Philippines for a special fan homecoming on July 15 at the Glorietta Activity Center.
