South Africa's Mia Le Roux withdraws from Miss Universe 2024 due to 'health concerns'
The Miss South Africa organization announced that their candidate for the Miss Universe 2024 pageant, Mia Le Roux, had dropped out from the competition due to problems with her health.
"It is with deep regret that we share the news that Mia Le Roux, Miss South Africa 2024, has had to withdraw from the Miss Universe competition due to health concerns," the organization stated on its website.
They did not specify what health issue affected Le Roux, who was noticeably absent at the Miss Universe preliminaries held on Friday, Nov. 15.
Following her withdrawal, Le Roux expressed her gratitude to her fans who have supported her throughout the pageant journey.
"I am profoundly thankful for the unwavering support from South Africa during my time at Miss Universe. Making this decision has been incredibly challenging, knowing the dreams and hopes that have been placed upon me," the beauty queen said.
She continued, "However, I am deeply grateful to have the opportunity to focus on my health and recovery so that I may continue to serve my country with full strength."
Despite Le Roux ending her journey early, the Miss South Africa organization stated she showed "incredible courage and grace throughout this difficult period."
"Her health and well-being are our utmost priority, and we stand by her side, dedicated to ensuring she regains her strength and returns to full health. Our hearts are with her as she takes the necessary steps toward recovery," they added.
The Miss Universe coronation night will be held in the Arena CDMX in Mexico City on Nov. 17 (Philippine time). The live telecast of the event will be aired on ABS-CBN's Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, Metro Channel, and iWantTFC.
