Mariah Carey and longtime boyfriend Bryan Tanaka breakup due to 'differences'—report
American pop star Mariah Carey and her backup dancer Bryan Tanaka have reportedly split after dating for seven years.
According to a Page Six report, a source exclusively reported that the two decided to call it off because Tanaka wanted kids of their own, while Carey seemingly did not want to.
“He wants to have a family. That’s not where she is at,” the source said, adding that their 14-year age gap was a significant factor for their differences. Tanaka is aged 40, while Carey is 54.
The Emotions singer shares her twins Moroccan and Monroe with her ex-husband Nick Cannon. Tanaka, meanwhile, does not have a child of his own.
“He wants to start having his own life,” another source told Page Six.
Early this week, breakup rumors sparked between the two after fans noticed that Tanaka was absent from the Songbird Supreme’s Merry Christmas One and All! tour that kicked off in November and ended on Dec. 15. This marks the first time that the two did not travel together, especially during holidays.
Their latest public update together was from March when Tanaka greeted the American pop star on her birthday.
“This is one of my favorite pictures. Ever. Happy Anniversary my Beautiful Queen. 3/27️,” he previously wrote.
Carey, on the other hand, last posted Tanaka on her Instagram feed in December 2022.
The two have yet to address the rumors.
They first worked together professionally in 2006 during Carey’s Adventures of Mimi tour. They started dating in 2016.
A year later, they broke up in 2017 but immediately got back again. They have since been active in sharing their life happenings as a couple, including their annual holiday trip to Aspen, special appearances in shows, and special personal occasions.
