Parokya ni Edgar guitarist Gab Chee Kee discharged from hospital after 2 months
Parokya ni Edgar guitarist Gab Chee Kee has finally returned home two months after getting medical treatment for complications caused by pneumonia.
The band's frontman, Chito Miranda, marked Chee Kee's feet with an Instagram post on March 10.
In the post showing Chee Kee smiling in a wheelchair, Parokya's frontman said that his bandmate was discharged following bouts of surgeries and getting intubated in the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU).
His captions reads, "After 2 months in the hospital due to pneumonia (more than a month dun, intubated sa ICU), and after several major and minor operations dealing with complications brought about by his condition, sa wakas...pina-uwi na si Gab sa bahay nila."
Miranda went on to express his gratitude to everyone who supported his fundraising efforts for Chee Kee, noting that it paved the way for his best friend's healing from his latest health condition.
Miranda's fundraising program included auctioning off Eraserheads' signed guitar which was personally donated to him by the band, Francis Magallona's 'Bagsakan' shirt, as well as his own collectible items.
"Dahil sa tulong ninyo, he survived," Miranda continued. "Maraming maraming salamat talaga!!!"
"He was able to get the best medical attention dahil nagtulung-tulong tayo...and now, he could finally continue with his chemotherapy."
Miranda announced Jan. 18 that Chee Kee, 46, was diagnosed with lymphoma late last year and has been undergoing chemotherapy for the past few months. Still and all, the guitarist kept playing with the band until he was advised by his doctor to take a rest.
Lymphoma is a type of cancer that begins in the infection-fighting cells, called lymphocytes, in the lymphatic system. According to WebMD, lymphoma causes these cells to change and grow out of control.
Now that Chee Kee has been discharged from the hospital, Miranda said that the guitarist is tasked to build his strength to carry on with his chemotherapy sessions.
"The important thing is that we are back on track," Miranda said. "Kumbaga, balik tayo sa main event...his fight against Lymphoma. We will win this battle."
The musician concluded his post by telling everyone his dream to grow old with his bandmates and celebrate how they won over Gab's challenges together.
"Many years from now, when me and my bandmates are old and gray, babalik balikan namin nila Gab yung kwento about how he fought and survived cancer, and how everyone helped out...and it will always be one hell of an inspirational story," Miranda said.
