Ryan Bang wows Korean press with his multilingual skills, explains why he's good at it
Beaming with Pinoy pride, Ryan Bang shared his exhilarating experience hosting the star-studded Asia Artists Awards 2023, a historic night for the Philippines that brought together big names from Korea, China, Japan, and the Philippines.
On last Friday's episode of It's Showtime, the 32-year-old actor couldn't contain his joy as he recounted hosting the red carpet segment.
"Salamat sa lahat ng bumubuo ng Asia Artist Awards 2023. First time po naganap dito sa Pilipinas kaya natuwa ako," he said while his co-hosts also lauded his hosting skills in the highly-anticipated event.
Ryan also shared his thrilling encounter with the event's South Korean press, who were impressed by his multilingual hosting skills.
"Sobra akong natuwa dahil ini-interview ako ng Korean news tinatanong ako kasi bakit ang galing ko daw sa iba't ibang lenggwahe, mga Tagalog, English, alam mo kung ano sinagot ko? Sabi ko kasi dito ako nag-aral sa Pilipinas," he proudly said.
Speaking with his co-hosts, the former Pinoy Big Brother housemate revealed that he extended an invitation for the members of STRAY KIDS and NewJeans to appear as guests on It's Showtime on their next visit to the country.
"Ininvite ko 'yung STRAY KIDS, mga K-pop stars, NewJeans. Sabi ko, next time 'pag may concert kayo kailangan niyo dumaan sa Showtime para mag-promote din. Pero ininvite ko sila in Tagalog kaya nga eh 'yun ang problem," he said.
Ryan continued, "Pero kinausap ko naman sila backstage in Korean."
In case you missed it, Ryan trended on social media after he stole the AAA red carpet show with his witty side comments and seamless language switching.
Aside from inviting STRAY KIDS to his noontime show, he also expressed his fanboy side and said "Sobrang gwapo, grabe" to Start Up star, Kim Seon Ho.
Last May, the TV host opened up about receiving opportunities to start a career in his homeland in South Korea during one of his interviews with ABS-CBN executive Lauren Dyogi.
"Nung close kami ni Ate Dara (Sandara Park), kinausap [ako] dati [nung] company niya, kinukuha sa akin five years training tapos na-meet ko 'yung Lee Soo-man, 'yung pinaka-head ng SM. Gusto talaga nila ako 100% doon,” Ryan recalled.
“Nagpunta pa ako SM Town, nag-one-on-one interview pa kami. Interested talaga sila. Mayroon kasi sila SM ENT. SM kasi K-pop 'yon, SM ENT 'yun 'yung parang pang-TV, pang-komedyante, pang-host,” he continued. However, given its “strict” conditions, the It’s Showtime host decided to turn down the offer to stay in the Philippines.
Ryan started his career in the Philippines after being a runner-up in the Philippine reality show Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Clash in 2010. Since then, he has been a part of the comedy shows Banana Split and 3ow Powhz! and films Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy, Seven Sundays, and Love Is Color Blind. He is also a regular host on the noontime show It's Showtime since 2012.
