After a tough competition with 35 other candidates, Gwendolyne Furniol of Negros Occidental has been crowned as Miss World Phillippines 2022.
The Miss World Philippines on Sunday evening brought back an audience after the pageant was held back in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Reigning queen Tracy Maureen Perez of Cebu City crowned her successor at the this year's coronation night in SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Sunday, June 5.
Gwendolyn wore a sparkly royal blue gown with beaded embellishment and a backless cut as her finale ensemble.
During the question and answer segment, she was asked how do we cope from an education deficit accumulated due to the pandemic.
She answered: "As an advocate of education, I do agree that during the pandemic we have suffered the most. But the children who have a lack of access to education have suffered the greatest and working hand in hand ERDA Foundation who empower the marginalized Filipino, I believe by uniting benefactors and encouraging our children and allowing them to go back to school, especially during this pandemic will make this world a better place because education is the greatest weapon against poverty."
Aside from the Miss World Philippines crown, she won Best in Evening Gown. Gwendolyn was also awarded P500,000, a one year contract at ALV Talent Circuit, Miss Philippine Airlines, Miss Blue Water Spa, and Miss Megaworld.

The pageant was hosted by Miss World Philippines 2014 Valerie Weigmann, Miss World Philippines 2017 Laura Lehmann, and Miss World 2018 Katarina Rodriguez.
