Drake defends pink nail paint: 'The world is being homophobic'

Canadian rapper Drake defended his pink nail polish after it raised eyebrows and received laughs from Internet users.

Netizens, including his friend and fellow rapper Lil Yachty, poked fun at his pink nails in the comment section of his recent Instagram post. "Boy got them heavy hangers in his ear," Lil Yachty wrote in the thread.

"Get out [of] my comments. You told me to paint my nails so I stop biting them and now the world is being homophobic for the first time since Rich Flex," he said, referring to his song with 21 Savage.

“Wait, is the world homophobic? Smh,” he added.

Lil Yachty kept his calm as he replied to Drake's comment, writing: “Woo-sah brother, you're not supposed to have these episodes in public, it’s fine. They just don’t get you bro." He added the hashtag #UDIFFERENTAF.

Drake's pink nails have been at the center of trolling since he began showing them off last week.

“You can’t be tryna rap some real s–t and then go sit at the nail salon nahh,” one user said.

“He waited for July so we wouldn't suspect him,” another one said, seemingly saying that Drake let Pride Month pass before debuting his pink nails to avoid suspicions about his sexuality.

People also said that he is in his “soft girl” era and that “he gone have on red lipstick next.”

While some ridiculed him, others were quick to defend him against “toxic masculinity.”

“Y’all are so damn homophobic for whaaaat⁉️ These comments ssscreeeeam insecure and toxic masculinity,” a netizen said. “Shut up, getting your nails done is not just for women, and it doesn’t make you any less of a man, next callerrrrr.”

This is not the first time that Drake colored his nails and received divided opinions from people. Just last month, the Hotline Bling singer sported a yellow manicure during a live stream for a betting app.

The rapper has been busy with his world tour It's All a Blur, which kicked off on Wednesday, July 5 in Chicago.
