PH's Asia Rose Simpson now in Top 40 of Miss World 2026
Philippines' Asia Rose Simpson secured a spot in the Top 40 of the Miss World 2026 pageant after topping the Asia and Oceania contingent in the Head-to-Head Challenge on Monday, Aug. 24.
A preliminary competition of the international pageant, the Head-to-Head Challenge was made up of two segments. The first gave each delegate a few minutes to talk about their life stories and advocacies.
Simpson, who hails from Quezon City, talked about how she grew up in the province and learned about the value of every seed planted. She was a world traveler by six months old with her family's non-profit organization, where she learned about the spirit of service. The beauty queen also spoke about her SEED program, a sports and dance initiative that advocates for the holistic health of today's youth.
Her speech got her in the top five of the first round, alongside the delegates from Korea, Maldives, Cook Islands, and Vietnam.
In the second round, each contestant was given a few minutes to answer a question.
The question Simpson got was, "Asia and Oceania include some of the world's oldest traditions and some of its fastest-changing societies. How can a new generation embrace progress without losing what makes its culture unique?"
Simpson delivered her answer without hesitation and with full confidence:
"There is a quote that goes something like, 'A people who do not know their history, origin, or culture is like a tree without roots.'
Our cultural heritage is one of the main frameworks that make us who we are. The traditions that we hold, the food that we eat, or the people that we're around is what makes home feel like home. And the best way to preserve our cultural heritage is to simply pass it down to the next generation.
Growing up in the Philippines, I saw firsthand the Filipino culture of kapwa, which, simply put, means interconnectedness like a string that binds us all together, whether that was of simple things like sharing food off of the same plate or the bayanihan spirit of neighbor helping neighbor after a typhoon struck.
It was the simple things like this that shaped me into who I am and, in the future, will shape who my children are. And though we have many avenues of promoting our culture—social media, pageantry, our spheres of influence—it will be the simple things that save us: speaking our native language at the house, sharing stories of old to our children and our grandchildren, or cooking recipes from our grandparents.
In the fast-paced, modernized digital world, things like kapwa or the bayanihan spirit will not be lost. In fact, they will be the things that ground us fully because that is what roots are for. And every generation learns from the last and the next."
By winning the Asia and Oceania region's Head-to-Head Challenge, Simpson automatically advanced to the Top 40 of the pageant.
Per the Miss World Philippines Organization, Simpson has also earned a spot among the Top 23 Talent Finalists of the competition.
The Miss World 2026 coronation night is set for Sept. 5 in Vietnam.
