Erwan Heussaff shares how you can find good food spots in Singapore
One of the many joys when it comes to traveling to unfamiliar countries is discovering some of their culinary specialties. But the challenge about this is identifying which food spot is the best place to go to.
Enter Erwan Heussaff's new show Serve It, Singapore! The series, which is in collaboration with the Singapore Tourism Board, aims to explore must-try restaurants straight from the culinary capital of Southeast Asia. It will also have Erwan speak with local chefs and do a deep dive into some of the country's one-of-a-kind dining experiences.
During a roundtable interview with Erwan attended by PhilSTAR L!fe, the Filipino food and travel content creator shared that he chose to feature Singapore as the country is very close to his heart and is densely packed with lots of eateries.
"If people can spend four or five, six days in Singapore, you'll be able to taste a lot of things. As Filipinos, we love to eat and travel to Singapore. I think maybe 70 percent of what we do when we go to Singapore is eating, and so it's such a great place to be able to do all of that in a very short amount of time," he said.
According to him, Filipinos who are planning to go to the country shouldn't be intimidated to try and explore.
"Taking public transport or taxis or anything like that is very easy and digestible. You can get from point A to point B very fast and quickly. So I think in Singapore, navigating the city is extremely easy," Erwan said.
But since the country has so many food spots to choose from, the hard part comes in narrowing down your options. One good way to do this is by asking the locals, as Erwan noted that everyone speaks English, making it easy to also get around and ask for recommendations or directions.
"We really sought out individuals who are doing extremely well in Singapore and who are integral to the industry there to take us around their favorite food spots. We love recommendations. We love getting people's opinions, so we thought it would be a very fresh approach to how to build a restaurant list and a recommendation list," he said.
He highlighted that he hopes Filipinos would learn a lot about the country, especially from its cuisine.
"You can find this dish in different places than the one we went to, so you can really kind of just use this as a guide in terms of the dishes that you should try. And then it's up to you based on where you're staying or where your hotel is to figure out which kind of restaurants you should go to," he said.
Shining the spotlight to a total of 16 restaurants, Serve It, Singapore! has already released its first episode, featuring dishes such as
