Ariana Grande addresses concerns about her weight and appearance

Trigger warning: This article contains mentions of depression and anxiety.

Ariana Grande addressed concerns about her appearance as she assured fans that she’s “healthy” and reminded them to be more mindful when it comes to commenting on others’ looks on social media.

In a TikTok video shared on Wednesday, April 12, the singer said: “The body that you’ve been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body. I was on a lot of antidepressants and drinking on them and eating poorly.”

“[I was] at the lowest point of my life when I looked the way you consider my healthy, but that in fact wasn’t my healthy,” she revealed.

According to entertainment outlet Page Six, fans started airing their concerns about her appearance last week, when she was spotted at Jeff Goldblum’s London concert. They pointed out that the Grammy award-winning star looks “worryingly thin.”

While she knew she didn’t have to explain herself, she felt that “maybe having an openness and some sort of vulnerability here, good might come from it.”

In the now-viral TikTok clip, Ariana highlighted the importance of being careful about every comment people put out online, no matter their intention. “There are ways to compliment someone or to ignore something that you see that you don’t like, that I think we should help each other work towards.”

“You never know what someone is going through."

“So even if you are coming from a loving place and a caring place, that person probably is working on it or has a support system that they are working on it with. Be gentle with each other and with yourselves,” she continued.

Ariana has previously opened up about struggling with mental health problems. In a 2019 Instagram post, she said her anxiety and depression was "at an all-time high" without getting into much detail. Page Six also reported that she dealt with PTSD after the bombing incident that took place at her 2017 concert in Manchester, which left 22 people dead.
