Who is Barron Trump, Donald Trump's 18-year-old son?
United States president Donald Trump's son Barron—who was last seen during his dad's inauguration in 2017 as a 10-year-old boy—returned to the public eye as an 18-year-old man.
During Trump's inauguration on Jan. 21 (Philippine time), Barron reintroduced himself to the public alongside his mother, First Lady Melania Trump.
Unlike in 2017, when he quietly stood by Melania's side for the most part during his father's oath-taking, Barron took center stage this year.
Barron, with slicked-back hair, looked dapper in a navy blue suit and tie. His towering height also drew attention.
Trump took note of this defining characteristic of his son in his inaugural speech.
“I have a very tall son named Barron," Trump told the crowd. “Has anyone ever heard of him?”
Barron stood up, gave the crowd a thumbs up, and held his hand to his ear as the applause grew louder.
As The New York Times noted, Barron was seen smiling and clapping alongside billionaire Elon Musk, who's among Trump's advisers. He shook the hand of former president Joe Biden as he departed the dais in the Capitol rotunda.
He also enthusiastically talked with the billionaire Jeff Bezos, Amazon chairman and The Washington Post owner.
He was photographed hobnobbing at a congressional luncheon, speaking with Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Pete Hegseth, Trump's nominee for defense secretary.
Later, Barron was greeted with a hero's welcome at a political rally at Capital One Arena in Washington, the Times reported.
Whenever his face appeared on the video board, the crowd responded with wild applause.
What to know about Barron Trump
Barron was born on March 20, 2006. He's the only son of Trump and Melania. He has four half-siblings.
Described by Trump as his "very tall son," Barron stands at 2.01m (6'7"), per multiple local outlets, including USA Today.
Barron graduated from Oxbridge Academy in West Palm Beach in Florida in May 2024. He also attended Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School in Manhattan and St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Potomac in Maryland, about 14 miles from the White House in Washington, D.C.
He's currently a student at New York University (NYU)'s Stern School of Business—a departure from his family's tradition of attending the University of Pennsylvania or Georgetown University.
Barron is a sports lover who plays golf, soccer, baseball, and basketball.
Melania often tweeted photos of a young Barron in sports attire.
It isn't clear whether Barron played varsity sports at Oxbridge Academy as he wasn't listed on any rosters. Trump, however, said Barron loves soccer. A Bleacher Report states that when Barron was 11 years old in 2017, he played for the D.C. United U-12 soccer team. He was a midfielder wearing No. 81.
Prior to Trump's inauguration, Barron was last seen in public in 2017, and had limited appearances during Trump's campaign then. Vice reported how he helped his father connect with younger voters.
Trump worked with content creators Adin Ross, the Nelk Boys, and Theo Von. Barron's friend, 18-year-old Bo Loudon, also reportedly set up the Ross stream and helped set Trump's interview with podcaster Joe Rogan. “He knew the youth vote," Trump said of Barron in his inaugural speech.
Barron is now treated as Trump's adviser, while the latter's supporters are considering him as the next-generation face of the "Make America Great Again" political movement.
