LIST: Local and international celebrities who found love online
Online dating can be a gamble...
It could be difficult to know the true personality of your date just through their text messages, or whether or not the profile picture that they are using really reflects what they look like behind the screen. In the worst possible scenario, you might even be bamboozled and victimized by your supposed sweetheart.
But not all cases are like that. There are beautiful love stories that have sprouted from online dating, and these local and international celebrities are living proof of that.
Cai Cortez
A popular way to find love online is through Tinder. While some users of the app have little success in finding their one and only in the app, actress and comedian Cai Cortez is one of the lucky ones as it was there that she met Wissem Rkhami, the man who would eventually put a ring on her finger.
In a previous interview, Cai shared that she created a profile on the dating app because she wanted to make use of its sole purpose: to date and nothing more.
"Kasi kung landi lang ang hanap mo doon, 'yun talaga ang makukuha mo," she said.
She clarified, however, that it was not out of desperation that she signed up for Tinder, explaining, "I was dating nung nag-Tinder ako. Yeah, I met very interesting people. Pero [si Wissem], hindi ko ini-expect na mai-in love siya nang ganoon."
"First time lang naming nag-meet, sinabi niya, 'I will marry you one day. And the next time we will meet, you will be with your parents and I will ask for your hand.' Sabi ko, 'Sigurado ka ba sa sinasabi mo?' Nung nakita raw niya ako, alam na raw niya," she added.
And Wissem proved to be a man of his word as the two of them tied the knot in a civil wedding ceremony in June 2016 and have since become doting parents to two beautiful kids named Bibo and Carmen.
Michelle Madrigal
Former actress Michelle Madrigal also found love on Tinder—not once, but two times.
The first man to flutter her heart is her ex-husband Troy Woolfolk. In a question-and-answer video posted on their YouTube account back in 2019, Michelle initially recounted that they first locked eyes at a park when Troy was walking with his dog.
"The movie scenario was, Troy was running at the park with his dog, and basically I started talking to him; asked about his dog and I pet him, this and that. And then, he started the conversation and then from there, he got my number and went out on a date."
However, Troy immediately corrected her and confessed that they got to know each other through Tinder, saying that Michelle gave him a blue star, which meant that she was super interested in him.
"We met through Tinder, a dating app. We started talking on a weekend, Sunday right? And then we met up on a Wednesday and then we went out again on Saturday with his friends. And then the rest is history," Michelle said.
They welcomed a daughter who they named Anika in 2017. Unfortunately, things didn't work out between the two of them and they eventually filed for a divorce, with Michelle citing compatibility as one of the reasons why their marriage did not turn out well.
In time, her heart was reignited once again by her current boyfriend Kyle, who she also met on a dating app called Hinge. In a YouTube video titled He Said, She Said: Our Story, Michelle gushed about the things that made her become attracted to Kyle.
"When I saw how he is around his kids—the way he talks to them, the way niyang i-treat sila—I was like 'Oh my gosh.' He's very caring and sobrang malambing," she said.
Serena Dalrymple
It was also thanks to a dating app that former child star Serena Dalrymple found her one true love.
Back in May, Serena took to Instagram to reveal that she had met her French fiancé, Thomas Bredillet, on Bumble.
"Four years ago today, I went out on a date to meet this French dude I matched on Bumble. Who knew that I’ll end up marrying this handsome smart sweet (now) American dude this year," she captioned, accompanying her post with a black and white picture of them being sweet together.
Wedding bells finally rang for the couple in October through an outdoor ceremony held in a picturesque area of Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire.
Mandy Moore
If there's one thing that can bring us all together, it's music. And it's precisely what led singer-songwriter and actress Mandy Moore to discovering the love of her life Taylor Goldsmith—the lead singer, guitarist, and chief songwriter of American folk rock band Dawes.
Recounting to PEOPLE how their love story began, Mandy said that they first made a connection when she posted on her Instagram account a picture of Dawes' music.
"I took a picture of their album and posted it on Instagram. Somehow, Taylor saw it and sent a note to me. We started emailing back and forth, then we went on a date and the rest is history. Thanks, Instagram, for helping me meet my fiancé," Mandy told the magazine.
Their romance continued until it reached the altar in November 2018, when the pair tied the knot in front of their nearest and dearest at a romantic sunset ceremony. Their love eventually bloomed two beautiful children that they named August and Oscar.
Adam Levine
Pretty much the whole world knows that Adam Levine's marriage with his wife Behati Prinsloo turned rocky in September 2022 after an Instagram model named Sumner Stroh revealed she "was having an affair with a man who’s married to a Victoria’s Secret model" for about a year. Adam has since denied this and said they have worked this out privately.
What the world probably doesn't know is that Adam met his wife of almost a decade after he sent her an email asking her if she could be a part of his music video, where romance eventually bloomed.
Behati recalled to fashion website NET‑A‑PORTER, "I met my husband through a mutual friend. Adam was looking for a girl for a music video that could do some action stuff, and our friend was like, 'You should meet Behati because she’s a total tomboy and down for anything,' so he emailed me asking if I could do it."
She added, "I ended up not doing it, but we kept emailing each other. It was such a natural correspondence that we kind of fell in love over email."
This eventually led them to tie the knot in a private ceremony in Mexico in 2014. They have since welcomed three children into the world.
