Katy Perry called out for ‘hurtful’ mom-shaming joke on ‘American Idol’ contestant
Katy Perry is being called out by an American Idol hopeful over her “hurtful” joke about the latter being a young mom of three.
During her audition, the contestant named Sara Beth Liebe told Katy and other judges—Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan—that she has welcomed three children at 25 years old. All three judges seemed surprised by her revelation as Luke proceeded to fan Katy as a joke.
“If Katy lays on the table, I think I’m going to pass out,” Sara said. To which, Katy replied: “Honey, you’ve been laying on the table too much.”
In a now-viral TikTok video, Sara called out the celebrity judge and shared how she really felt about Katy’s remarks, which she called “embarrassing” and “hurtful.”
“I think that women supporting and uplifting other women is so cool and I think that mom-shaming is super lame and I think that it’s hard enough to be a mom and it’s hard enough to be a woman,” she said.
Sara went on to stress that “nobody deserves to feel crappy” about being a young mother.
“If you’re a good mama and you love your babies, that’s all that really matters. Other comments just don’t feel necessary,” she added.
