Rihanna reveals she and A$AP Rocky didn't have a nanny after giving birth: 'Just us as parents'

Behind the show-stopping performances and glamorous magazine covers, pop superstar Rihanna is like every parent after all—a happy "zombie" who stays up the entire day to look after her newborn son.

The 34-year-old musician and businesswoman got candid in her recent interview with Vogue, where she, A$AP Rocky, and her son served as the cover for its March issue.

Walking through her birth experience which she described as “beautiful,” Rihanna revealed that they had no helpers after being discharged from the hospital.

“We came home, cold turkey, had no one. It was just us as parents and our baby,” she recalled, adding, “Man, you’re a zombie for the most part.”

Both shocked and amused with the experience, the Lift Me Up singer said, “I cannot believe it,” further explaining, “Essentially, from one person I became two. You walk into the hospital as a couple and leave as a family of three. It’s nuts.”

Rihanna went on to share how like most parents, she didn't even have time to nap. “And oh, my gosh, those first days are insane. You don’t sleep. At all. Not even if you wanted to," she recounted.

“You’re just going through the motions,” she continued. “You’re so paranoid. Because you’re like: they trusted us to come home with this baby? This new life? With us?” she said, laughing at bemusement. “No doctors, no nurses, we’re just… going home?”

Rihanna gave birth to their first son in May 2022, who they have yet to reveal his name to the public.

Despite her challenges as a normal first-time parent and one that has to keep her son's privacy as high as possible, Rihanna still described her experience as "legendary."

“It’s everything. You really don’t remember life before, that’s the craziest thing ever,” she shared, “You literally try to remember it—and there are photos of my life before—but the feeling, the desires, the things that you enjoy, everything, you just don’t identify with it because you don’t even allow yourself mentally to get that far,” emphasizing, “Because it doesn’t matter.”

Rihanna and rapper A$AP Rocky have been together since 2020 and have been enjoying their life as parents to their 9-month-old baby and another one on the way. The pop star revealed her second pregnancy during her height-defying performance in this year’s Super Bowl halftime show.
