Pinoy basketball anime 'Barangay 143' arrives on Netflix Oct. 1

Heads up basketball and anime fans! Barangay 143, an anime television series about basketball, created for Pinoys and by Pinoys, is finally making its Netflix debut.

Spotted on Netflix’s Coming Soon tab are the details about Barangay 143, which has an official premiere date of Oct. 1 on the giant streaming platform.

Produced by Philippine-based Synergy88 Entertainment Media Inc. and ASI Animation Studio., Singapore’s August Media Holdings, and Japan’s TV Asahi, the basketball-centric animated series is the first major sports-themed anime show produced in the country.

The 26-episode run of Barangay 143 first aired on GMA 7 from October 2018 to June 2019. It follows the adventures of Bren Park, a basketball star from South Korea who migrated to the Philippines in search of his biological dad. In doing so, he finds an unlikely family in a team of misfits trying to bring glory to their hometown – set against the action-packed world of street basketball.

Barangay 143 features an all-star voice cast of Filipino actors: Migo Adecer, Julie Ann San Jose, Ruru Madrid, John Arcilla, Edu Manzano, Cherie Gil, Lorna Tolentino, Paolo Contis, Archie Alemania, Doug Kramer, Jaime Fabregas, Antonio Aquitania, and Benjie Paras.
