Johnny Depp said he's willing to play Captain Jack Sparrow again, nearly a decade after the last Pirates of the Caribbean was released.

The actor opened up about possibly returning to the movie series for one reason: "send them off on a better note."

“If things are exactly where they need to be with regard to how they are going to top off the Pirates franchise… the only involvement I really want to have, truly, is just to send them off on a better note,” Depp told Entertainment Tonight during the Ebenezer press tour.

“I will go to work with [Jerry] Bruckheimer tomorrow for anything. Doesn’t matter… if it’s Jerry, I trust him. We have a deep friendship," he added.

In August 2025, film producer Jerry Bruckheimer told Entertainment Weekly that he and Depp had talked about the actor reprising his role in a sixth Pirates movie.

“If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it. It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know," he told the outlet at the time.

"We are still working on a screenplay. We want to make it. We just got to get the right screenplay. We haven’t quite gotten there yet, but we’re close," he added.

Depp starred in five Pirates movies from 2003 with The Curse of the Black Pearl, followed by Dead Man's Chest, At World's End, On Stranger Tides, and Dead Men Tell No Tales, which was released in 2017. According to Variety, the movie series has collectively grossed $4.5 billion (~P285 billion).

The actor last starred in the 2018 movie Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, but was dropped as Gellert Grindelwald during the making of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledor amid a libel lawsuit against The Sun, which was followed by a defamation trial against Amber Heard. He's currently starring in the fantasy film Ebenezer and in the upcoming thriller Day Drinker slated for 2028.
