Princess Marcial files concubinage case against Eumir Marcial
Trigger warning: This article deals with violence against women and physical abuse.
Princess Marcial has taken legal action against Eumir Marcial in connection with his alleged infidelity in their marriage.
Her lawyer, Atty. Alel Cayanan, confirmed to PhilSTAR L!fe on Wednesday, Jan. 22, that Princess has filed a concubinage complaint against the Olympian.
Article 334 of the Revised Penal Code states that concubinage is committed by a married husband by "(a) keeping a mistress in the conjugal dwelling; (b) having sexual intercourse under scandalous circumstances with a woman who is not his wife; or (c) cohabiting with her in any other place."
This comes almost two weeks after Princess aired their dirty laundry on Facebook, saying she's taking her issue with Eumir to court as he allegedly cheated on her and abused her.
"I caught Eumir having an affair in October last year. I, along with my sister, have personally caught them inside an Airbnb condominium in Pasay where we had them both arrested at a police station," she said, adding that her husband and his alleged mistress had to be temporarily detained for five days.
Princess said she gave Marcial "multiple chances to make amends with our marriage" and permitted his release by signing an affidavit of desistance. The alleged mistress also signed the compromise agreement "thinking Eumir would take this chance to correct his mistake and do better."
But according to Princess, Eumir continued to manipulate her afterward, still fostering a "sickening love affair" with his alleged mistress.
On Jan. 14, Princess's lawyer Atty. Alel Auxillos-Cayanan, shared with L!fe photos of the marks allegedly caused by Eumir. They showed a scratch on her right eye as well as bruises on her right leg.
On his Facebook page, Eumir shared a news report about Princess' marks due to his alleged beating, in which he asked, "Ganyan ba mangbugbog ang boksingero?"
'Just a friend'
Marcial spoke with Zamboanga media to deny Princess' infidelity and domestic abuse allegations against him.
He insisted that his alleged mistress was just his friend whose wallet got lost in his car before. He added that he met up with her only to return her wallet.
He also denied claims that he ordered the construction of a house for his alleged mistress, noting that it's least likely especially since he cannot even do it for his parents.
He also insisted that his marriage with Princess has long been on the rocks, claiming they've already separated before he was seen with another woman.
Princess and Marcial tied the knot in 2021 after being together for nine years. Their wedding took place a year after the boxer achieved a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics.
Marcial previously competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics, but ended his journey without getting the gold after he lost to Turabek Khabibullaev of Uzbekistan via unanimous decision in the 16th round of the men's 80kg division.
