Selena Gomez opened up about her experience with nicotine vaping, sharing that it changed her voice and that quitting has been a difficult process for her.

In an Instagram story on Oct. 18, the singer and actress admitted that she used to vape nicotine frequently and warned others about it.

“I'm not gonna be able to change my voice. I vaped nicotine a lot,” she said. “Nicotine is so hard to quit, and I think I just wanted to say, if you're going through it or if you're even trying to vape, it's just not worth it."

“It's so stupid. It changed my voice,” she continued.

She addressed listeners who may have noticed the difference, joking that it's understandable if they no longer like listening to her sing or speak. “I don't mind. Just don't listen to it,” she said with a laugh.

Despite the difficulty of quitting, Gomez said she remains hopeful about sustaining it. “I am really excited, because I stopped and I just hope I can keep it up. It's really hard,” she admitted. "I hope that if you are going through something, you can get through it, too."

In an Instagram Live in December 2025, the singer responded to questions from fans about her changing vocal tone, explaining that her throat sometimes swells internally. “I think my point is that sometimes things happen. I get weird. My throat kind of swells inside sometimes. That's all,” she said at the time.

The singer has faced health problems in the past. She previously spoke about living with lupus, an autoimmune disease. She also underwent a kidney transplant in 2017 due to lupus-related organ damage.

Gomez is an American singer and actress known for the hits Lose You to Love Me and Who Says, as well as her roles in Wizards of Waverly Place and Only Murders in the Building. She is married to music producer Benny Blanco and is the founder of beauty brand Rare Beauty.
