Weekend Hangs: Pawchella, LaLaLa Fest, local theater and more happening this Aug. 21-23

Got plans for the long weekend? 

With Ninoy Aquino Day falling on Friday, Aug. 21, there's an extra day to catch up with friends, take your pets out, see a show or simply explore what's happening around Metro Manila. 

From music festivals and concerts to theater productions, food events and a massive pet fair, here are some weekend hangs to check out from Aug. 21 to 23. 

Aug. 19-23: Flora Filipina Expo 2026 

Plant parents can spend the long weekend surrounded by flowers at the Flora Filipina Expo 2026 at the Quezon Memorial Circle. 

Held in celebration of the Philippine Orchid Society's 80th anniversary, the five-day expo will showcase orchids and other ornamental plants, with exhibitors and plant enthusiasts gathering for the event. 

Expect demos and lectures like how to grow bonsais or orchids, techniques in grafting boungainvillea, as well as a flower competition.

The expo runs until Aug. 23.

Aug. 21: LaLaLa Fest Manila 

For those looking for a music-filled Friday night, LaLaLa Fest Manila will bring its lineup of international acts to the World Trade Center Manila on Aug. 21. 

The inaugural festival will feature artists including Steve Lacy, Dermot Kennedy and Two Door Cinema Club, among other performers. Local artists include Ben&Ben, Maki, Over October, Dilaw, and Fitterkarma.

Tickets are available through SM Tickets, with general admission and VIP options.

Aug. 22-23: Paw Fest 2026: Pawchella Festival

Pet parents, this one's for you. Paw Fest 2026: Pawchella Festival will return to Robinsons Magnolia for its fifth year on Aug. 22 and 23. The two-day pet fair will bring together 36 participating brands, from independent local pet businesses to established pet-care and lifestyle names. 

Aside from shopping, visitors can look forward to veterinary services, educational sessions, a Pet Blessing, competitions, brand activities, freebies and other activities for pets and their humans. 

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Upper Ground Floor Atrium, with free admission. 

Aug. 22: KAKANIN... KAIN! The Philippine Kakanin Festival 

Got a sweet tooth? Spend Saturday discovering some of the Philippines' beloved native delicacies at KAKANIN... KAIN! The Philippine Kakanin Festival

The one-day event will celebrate the country's rich kakanin heritage, with guests getting the chance to meet artisans, discover regional specialties and learn about traditional techniques behind Filipino rice cakes. 

Join the Heirloom Rice Cake Making session for P1,800, enjoy an all-you-can-eat kakanin feast for P2,500, or pay P3,800 for a day pass.

The Rice Cake Bazaar is free of admission and will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at The Glasshouse, New World Makati Hotel. 

Aug. 22: ‘Andres KKK’

The Philippine Ballet Theatre will bring the story of revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio to the stage with “Andres KKK.” 

With original choreography by Gener Caringal, the production explores Bonifacio's life, revolutionary ideals and ultimate sacrifice through dance. 

The show will be staged at the Proscenium Theater on Aug. 22 at 7 p.m., with another performance on Aug. 23 at 3 p.m. 

Tickets are priced at P2,000 for Dress Circle and P3,000 for Orchestra Center and Side.

Aug. 22: Angeline Quinto’s 15th anniversary concert 

Angeline Quinto is marking 15 years in the music industry with “AQUIN15E,” her 15th anniversary concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. 

The singer will celebrate the milestone with a concert on Aug. 22 at 7 p.m., giving fans a chance to revisit her hits and see her perform live. 

Guest performers include Martin Nievera, Regine Velasquez, Erik Santos, Enchong Dee, Skusta Clee, the Divine Divas, and Baby Dolls.

Aug. 22-23: ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ 

Shakespeare fans can catch a rerun of “A Midsummer Night's Dream” at the Mirror Theatre Studios in Makati. 

Presented by The Playbook Club, the comedy follows four young lovers and a group of amateur actors whose lives become tangled with fairies, mistaken identities and magic in an enchanted forest. 

The show will run at 8 p.m. on Aug. 22, followed by performances at 1 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Aug. 23.

Aug. 22-23: AWS Community Day Philippines 2026 

Tech enthusiasts can spend their weekend learning about cloud technology at AWS Community Day Philippines 2026. 

The two-day community-led event will take place at the AWS Philippines office in Bonifacio Global City, with the venue opening at 8 a.m. on both days. Attendees can expect sessions and activities focused on cloud technology and the AWS community. 

The event will be held at Arthaland Century Pacific Tower along 5th Avenue and 30th Street in BGC. 

Aug. 23: Wish Date: Unchanging Glass 

For a Sunday night concert, Wish 107.5's “Wish Date: Unchanging Glass” will bring The Juans, DWTA, Renz Verano, Pops Fernandez, Zaijian Jaranilla, Yukii Takahashi and Aljon Mendoza to the Smart Araneta Coliseum. 

"Celebrate a night of music and love with us! Presented by Wish 107.5 & KDR Music House, Wish Date is a unique concert experience that takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride — through film and live music," they wrote.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. on Aug. 23.
