34 int'l airlines at NAIA now linked to immigration e-gates
Passengers traveling abroad can now expect faster and more efficient immigration processing with the new immigration data-sharing system, which enables airlines to transmit passengers' flight-related details to immigration authorities before arrivals and departures.
According to a report by the Philippine STAR, 34 international airlines at Ninoy Aquino International Airport are now linked to BI's new Advance Passenger Information System to streamline passenger processing.
Introduced under the airport's modernization program, the e-gates utilize passport-scanning and facial recognition features to streamline passenger processing and ease congestion during busy hours.
The New NAIA Infrastructure Corp., citing updates from the Bureau of Immigration, said 11 airlines have yet to fully integrate with the API system and start the regular transmission of flight-related passenger data.
Immigration authorities have directed all remaining international carriers operating in the country to complete the integration and begin full data transmission by June 30, 2026.
The new system allows immigration authorities to screen travelers in advance and flag potential concerns before they travel. This means passengers can expect shorter queues, faster immigration clearance, and a smoother airport experience as automated border control systems are fully utilized.
The NNIC said they will continue working with immigration officials, airlines, and other stakeholders to further improve the speed, safety, and efficiency of passenger processing at NAIA.
