‘Princess Diaries 3’ director shares what fans can expect from upcoming film
Get ready to return to Genovia, because The Princess Diaries 3 is slowly but surely becoming a reality!
Adele Lim, who is set to direct the upcoming installment, shared what fans can look forward to from the new chapter in Mia Thermopolis' story.
"We just want to make the story right because it is a franchise that is so beloved by so many people," Lim said in an interview with Variety.
She appeared to hint at a more mature take on the story, noting that some of the fans from the 2001 original movie are mothers now.
"There are so many movies that are wish fulfilment for princesses, we don’t have a lot of wish fulfilment movies for queens. That’s what we are setting out to do here, to show a woman in her full power," Lim remarked.
According to her, fans can expect to see Anne Hathaway's character fully stepping into her role as the Queen of Genovia.
"If you were a fan of the original first two movies, I think you can look forward to a lot of fun returns," Lim said. "We’re going to be able to shoot in Europe and really show the audience Genovia in its full glory."
The Princess Diaries films follow average teenager Mia Thermopolis as she finds out that she's of royal blood and is set to take the throne of the fictional land of Genovia. Her grandmother, Queen Clarisse, teaches her princess—and life—lessons before Mia eventually takes over the land in the second film.
Hathaway previously confirmed that she is set to reprise her character for The Princess Diaries 3. However, it is not yet known whether Julie Andrews, who plays Mia's grandmother, or Chris Pine, who plays Mia's love interest in the second film, will also return for the sequel.
Plot details and an official release date have likewise yet to be announced.
